Processed Satellite Images for the Caspian Sea

Some examples of the processed satellite images for the Caspian Sea were kindly provided to the CEP by the Remote Sensing Department of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute (Sevastopol, Ukraine).

Remote sensing department of the MHI has 20 years experience in ocean remote sensing and has hardware and correspondent software for receiving and processing of satellite information:

  • 1.7 GHz HRPT digital station for NOAA and SeaWIFS data;
  • 1.7 GHz analog data station for METEOSAT;
  • 137 MHz APT station for NOAA, OCEAN, Sich, and Meteor satellites;

Receiving station region overlaps territory from Spain to Mid Asia including Caspian Sea.

Included are:

  • The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images based on the NOAA satellites data.

  • So called Color Index images based on the same multi-spectral satellite data in visible spectrum range. They give some information on vegetation for the land and water turbidity for water.

  • Chlorophyll image based on the SeaWIFS data processed using the SEADAS software and standard algorithm.
