The CRTC’s representatives informed the Meeting on the
activities related to data and information management performed in the centers.
The Meeting agreed on the amended structure of the
Caspian Information System (CaspSIS), including new “Events” module.
The Meeting recommended that all data should be quality
controlled at least at two stages (at the origination and at the data base loading
stages).
The Meeting agreed that all data sets as primary as
secondary data should be supplied complete with meta description.
The Meeting reviewed the strategy and structure for the
development of the Caspian GIS.
The Meeting discussed the Final Draft Work Plan for the
Data and Information Management component of the CEP, which was amended at the Meeting.
The Meeting discussed the approaches for creation and
draft structure of the Biodiversity database. It was recommended to organize special
workshop of a small group of experts to discuss the detailed structure of this database in
Astrakhan at the end of January 2001. Meeting recommended to pay special attention to the
development of the database modules and information systems for the invasive species.
Meeting recommended to launch the DIM home-page at the
CEP web site as soon as possible.
Meeting recommended to select (or to develop) agreed
code systems for different types of variables used in the programme databases.
Meeting recommended the wider use of results of the
international and national projects from being performed in the region and improve the
utilization of the GIS and remote sensing data in the environmental and bio resources
management.
DIM Theme will develop and distribute to the CRTCs by
January 15 2001 formats for presentation of graphical/cartographic products to be produced
for the TDA.
Each CRTC will provide the PCU with the list of
parameters they are collecting for their databases. This material should be submitted by
the end of January 2001.

The Meeting agreed to request the CEP Steering Committee
to develop, as soon as possible, an agreed mechanism for information and data collection,
exchange, distribution and use.
The Meeting requested EU/TACIS and UNDP to provide
relevant CRTC’s with necessary software for the implementation of DIM tasks and to
organize training.
The Meeting requested EU/TACIS, UNDP, UNEP and the World
Bank, through the Ecotoxicology Project, to find ways to improve the Internet connectivity
of the CRTCs.
The participants of the Meeting expressed their
acknowledgement to the PCU DIM Team for the work carried out during last year in support
of Regional Data and Information Management and to the PCU staff for the meeting
organization.
