Relations with other CRTCs

The PCU

The ITCAMP CRTC will take its lead from the PCU in striving to meet its objectives and obtain its outputs. It will work especially closely with the Scientific Liaison and Information Management (SLIM) Officer as well as the Public Participation Advisor. ITCAMP will seek guidance from the SLIM Officer in its work on resources databases, environmental mapping, publications, etc. Likewise, it will seek the advice of the Public Participation Advisor to ensure effective public participation in the coastal planning processes it will develop.

ITCAMP will also work closely with all the other CRTCs, freely exchanging data and information on a mutual basis. ITCAMP will rely on the provision of data from many of the other CRTCs and, in turn, will incorporate this data in the coastal plans that it will develop and which will become the foundation for coastal resources management in the Caspian. More specifically, the ITCAMP relationship with individual CRTCs is likely to develop as follows :

Assessment of Transboundary Biodiversity Priorities, Kazakhstan

ITCAMP will depend on this CRTC for Caspian-wide ecological data. In particular, information will be sought on designated or proposed protected areas, areas which are important for migratory bird species, wetlands, bird roosts, seal colonies, etc. Information on these and other ecologically sensitive areas will be incorporated into the Coastal Profiles, and included in environmental maps as well as the pilot Coastal Management Plans both of which will be prepared on a country basis and will enhance protection of these resources. This information will also be very valuable when planning the Caspian Atlas of Coastal Resources.

Sustainable Management of Fish Resources and other Commercially Exploited Aquatic Bioresources, Russian Federation

ITCAMP will depend on this CRTC for information on commercially valuable aquatic living resources. In particular, it will seek information on natural nursery areas, important breeding areas, areas which are subject to a seasonal or other restriction, hatcheries, fish processing plants and related activities. This information will be used in the Coastal Profiles, shown in environmental maps and on Coastal Management Plans as well as in the Caspian Atlas of Coastal Resources.

Combating Coastal Desertification and Land Degradation, Turkmenistan

ITCAMP will import and utilize data from this CRTC and incorporate it in the Coastal Profiles and the pilot Management Plans. By bringing together in map form information on soil capability and land use, water resources and uses, and related information, ITCAMP will assist the work of this CRTC.

Contaminant Abatement and Control Policies and Procedures, Azerbaijan

ITCAMP will exchange data and information with this CRTC. ITCAMP will benefit from information on contaminant sources, discharge standards, water quality standards, etc. In turn it can contribute data and information on the resources that are being affected and its Management Plans will be able to set achievable targets for abatement in priority areas.

Effective Regional Information and Data Management, Azerbaijan

ITCAMP will collaborate with this CRTC in order to ensure compatibility of data sets and harmony of approach in handling and processing environmental data. ITCAMP will seek access to data from this CRTC for the compilation of the Coastal Profiles, for identifying resources and their uses for the purpose of the pilot management plans, and to produce the maps for the Caspian Atlas of Coastal Resources.

Regional Emergency Response Actions, I.R. Iran

ITCAMP will contribute tools to be used by this CRTC, namely, management plans for the land and water and environmental maps. These plans and maps, which would have been developed with the participation of a broad cross-section of stakeholders, will facilitate decision-making when dealing with an emergency affecting the coastal environment. Conversely, information from the emergency response maps that this CRTC is expected to produce, will be incorporated into the Coastal Management Plans and the Caspian Atlas of Coastal Resources.

Effective Regional Assessment of Contaminant Levels, I.R. Iran

Through its pilot Management Plans, ITCAMP will provide an excellent framework for the assessments and monitoring which are to be coordinated by this CRTC. By providing a comprehensive picture of resources and their use, ITCAMP will assist this CRTC

Water Level Fluctuations, Kazakhstan

ITCAMP will import and utilize data from this CRTC in its compilation of the national Coastal Profiles and the pilot Management Plans. In particular, Coastal Management Plans will incorporate proposed water level early warning systems. By incorporating water level information on its maps and plans, ITCAMP will assist with the process of adjustment necessary to protect coastal populations and economic investments from fluctuating water levels and hence lead to a lower risk.

Institutional, Legal, Regulatory and Economic Frameworks, Russian Federation

ITCAMP will collaborate with this CRTC to avoid duplication of effort. In particular, it will consult on the reviews of coastal legislation, planning procedures and resource use procedures.

Sustainable Human Development and Health, Turkmenistan

ITCAMP will benefit from socio-economic data and information from this CRTC. In turn, ITCAMP will place this information within the comprehensive context of environmental planning and management, thus creating an excellent planning tool for those responsible for human development, health and related issues.
